Manchester United have had an initial bid for Fiorentina winger Federico Bernardeschi rejected, according to reports in Italy.

The 22-year-old, who played in his side’s 3-0 Europa League defeat at Tottenham Hotspur last night, has also been linked with a move to Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Chelsea in recent months.

Bernardeschi has scored five goals in 30 appearances across all competitions for la Viola this season and it is believed he would cost in the region of £31.6million.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, although United are unwilling to meet the Serie A club’s valuation, their interest has become concrete.

Fiorentina turned down their Premier League counterpart’s opening £22.9million offer yet remain open to further negotiations and expect United to return to the table.

Bernardeschi, who came up through la Viola’s youth system, is contracted with the club until 2019.

Calciomercato’s report also claims that Sir Alex Ferguson showed an interest in the player in 2011, when the Carrara-born winger was just 17 years old, though Bernardeschi opted to stay in Florence.
