Your support makes all the difference. In something of a surprise selection from manager Louis van Gaal, Jesse Lingard will start for Manchester United in tonight’s Champions League Group B clash away to CSKA Moscow.
The young winger put in a lively performance when he came off the bench in the club’s 3-0 Premier League win over Everton last weekend and clearly showed enough to impress his Dutch manager.
Lingard will now make his debut in Europe’s premier club competition in a game where United will hope to pick up their first European away win of the season.
The club’s fans reacted to the surprising news on Twitter and were, by and large, delighted that a youth team product had been handed an opportunity to impress.
Here are just some of the many positive tweets...
With Lingard’s selection, United have maintained their record of having a youth team graduate in every first-team match squad since October 1937.
