Manchester United have confirmed their squad for the Champions League group stages, with Sergio Romero, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo all left out.

New signings Edinson Cavani, Alex Telles and Facundo Pellistri included have all been included as part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s 25-man selection.

Mason Greenwood, Teden Mengi and Brandon Williams are included on United’s ‘B list’ as players born later than 1 January 1999.

The omission of Romero is the most noteworthy, with veteran back-up goalkeeper Lee Grant preferred by Solskjaer.

Romero was United’s second-choice goalkeeper throughout last season but fell down the pecking order following Dean Henderson’s return from loan at Sheffield United.

The Argentina international has so far failed to secure a move away from Old Trafford, with his wife Eliana Guercio publicly criticising United for their treatment of her husband.

Jones made just eight appearances for United last season as the 28-year-old spent endured yet another campaign blighted by injury and fitness concerns.

Rojo’s Old Trafford career has also been plagued by injury. The Argentine played nine times for United last season before spending the second half of last season on loan at Estudiantes.
