From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Your support makes all the difference.Liverpool have come out victorious in the first ever European meeting against their greatest rivals, Manchester United.
Leading the Europa League Round of 16 tie 2-0 from the first-leg, the Anfield club would have been confident going into the match, however when Nathaniel Clyne tripped Anthony Martial in the box early in the match, doubts must have creeped in.
Martial picked himself up and sent Simon Mignolet the wrong way from the spot.
Manchester United were on top but then Philippe Coutinho scored a crucial away goal after coming in from the left wing and beating David De Gea at his front post.
The game ended 1-1 on the night, meaning Liverpool advance to the quarter-finals of the Europa League 3-1 on aggregate.
So who impressed at Old Trafford? And who should have done better? We take a look...
