Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The 27-year-old, who was a key figure as Jose Mourinho's Inter clinched a fourth straight Serie A title last term, has been linked with Manchester City, Chelsea and Real Madrid this summer.
However, he insists he is settled in Italy and believes his demands will be met by Inter.
"As I have mentioned many times, I want to remain at Inter," said Maicon, who won the Confederations Cup with Brazil in South Africa yesterday.
"I am happy to play at Inter.
"We can reach an agreement without any problems.
"If they (Inter) have watched my performances in the Confederations Cup and want to recognise what I've done (with an improved contract), I will happily remain at Inter.
"Now I'm going to Sao Paulo and then to Belo Horizonte with my wife and children.
"I am very tired and I need to go on holiday."
Maicon is under contract with the Nerazzurri until June 2013.
