Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Suarez infamously made all the headlines last year for sinking his teeth into the Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini while playing for Uruguay at the World Cup. He was banned from all football activity for four months for the incident. It was also the third time he had been found guilty of biting an opponent.
During his ban last summer, Suarez moved from Liverpool to Barcelona for £75m, and while they went on to win the treble last term, they have not started this season in fine form at all. Luis Enrique's side have already lost three games in all competitions, including two in La Liga.
“We don’t have the same bite as last season,” Spanish newspaper AS quoted Suarez as saying during an interview for the 'Hat-trick Barca' show, which will be broadcast on 18 October.
The 27-year-old striker was also critical of the Barca fans, some of which have started to turn on their players in recent weeks.
"It doesn’t make any sense that they whistle the team. It’s not enjoyable for them to whistle for nothing, without any reason. Everything was brilliant when the treble was won, when the European Super Cup was won, and now for losing one or two games they’re criticising the side for a few things, which I don’t think makes sense."
Suarez also spoke about the injured Lionel Messi, who is expected to sidelined until early December with a knee problem.
“Obviously with Leo it’s a lot easier, but without him I have to try to make it easy too and everybody has to take responsibility for his work and do it as well as possible," Suarez added. "Nobody can take his place because he’s irreplaceable."
