From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It’s a big game for…

Christian Benteke: Liverpool’s £32.5 million striker had perhaps his finest moment in a Liverpool shirt against Man Utd in September when he scored a spectacular overhead kick past David De Gea. Benteke’s found it tough since then and has been used sparingly since Jurgen Klopp replaced Brendan Rodgers in October.

Having produced a match-winning display off the bench against Crystal Palace, the Belgian will be looking to take advantage if he’s given the opportunity to start in this round-of-16 first leg clash.

Best stat…

0: Despite the phenomenal history of England’s two most successful clubs and their regular presence in European competition over the past 50 years, this will be the first time the two sides meet in a European fixture.

Remember when...

Almost 7 years ago to the day, a Fernando Torres inspired Liverpool side went to Old Trafford and produced a sensational performance to win 4-1.

Player to watch

Anthony Martial: The Man Utd forward produced a stunning goal, turning Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel inside out before finishing neatly past Mignolet at Old Trafford back in September. That moment announced the Frenchman’s arrival onto the English stage.

Martial has been one of United’s better performers this season and his mobility and energy could cause Liverpool’s back four plenty of problems on Thursday night, don’t bet against him scoring a potentially crucial away goal for the visitors.
