From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The former England captain is keen to return to Serie A when the Major League Soccer season ends next month in order to maximise his chances of being included in Fabio Capello's World Cup squad.
And galaxy chief executive Tim Leiweke has given his blessing for the 34-year-old midfielder to secure his return to a club where he spent the second half of last season.
"We want to get it done, for him and for us and I don't want any confusion," he said.
"We know he has to be playing in Europe leading up to the World Cup. That has been made clear to us, and we are going to support that.
"He will be somewhere come January and we will see him back in July.
"We have a contract and despite people thinking we're going to sell him, we're not. David is going to finish his career with the Galaxy."
Elsewhere, Internazionale president Massimo Moratti has revealed that he is a fan of Goran Pandev, but insists that his club has no plans to sign the Lazio striker in January.
The Macedonia international is currently out in the cold at the Rome club after asking to leave during the summer and reports claim that Pandev will join Inter when the transfer window reopens.
"Pandev is a name that I read a lot in the press," said Moratti.
"But up to now, I have had no dialogue regarding Pandev with club executives."
The 26-year-old striker is out of contract at the end of the season and Moratti has hinted that a free transfer switch to the San Siro is more likely.
He added: "Pandev is a great player and next year I would gladly go and see him play."
Elsewhere, Juventus striker Amauri has warned Internazionale to expect a serious fight for the Scudetto from the Turin club this season.
Juve have slipped two points off the pace set by Inter in the opening weeks of the season following last weekend's defeat at Palermo, but Amauri fully expects to be involved in a Serie A title race this year.
"We are a strong team this year and we can win the Scudetto," he declared.
"I think that we are equal to Inter and we are hungry to win.
"We haven't had the best of starts this season, but we are Juventus and we can improve."
