From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Bayern Munich have fired coach Jürgen Klinsmann and appointed Jupp Heynckes for the final five games of the season. Klinsmann's fate was sealed after a meeting with the club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the general manager Uli Hoeness and director Karl Hopfner yesterday.
He has been in charge of the defending Bundesliga champions since last July, but failed to take the club to the top of the table. Saturday's 1-0 defeat at home to Schalke left the club three points adrift of leaders Wolfsburg.
Rummenigge claimed the change at the helm was necessary. He said: "It was a difficult decision, but the results from the last weeks, the way they came about and especially the situation five rounds before the end of the season forced us to act due to our responsibility towards the club.
"With Jupp Heynckes and [assistant] Hermann Gerland we have two experienced coaches, to whom we have handed the management of the team until the end of the season."
