Real head coach Jose Mourinho refused to admit that his side had been humiliated in their El Clasico thrashing by Barcelona in the Camp Nou.

Mourinho's men went into the game with a one-point lead at the top of La Liga, but were torn apart by Barca, who take over at the summit.

The Portuguese said after the game: "One team played very good, one team very bad. One deserved to win and one deserved to lose.

"Last week we had a point lead and now we have two points less. I've always said that Barcelona is a finished product and Madrid are a long way away.

"Humiliated? No. It's easy to deal with this loss, we just weren't good enough."

Real general director, Jorge Valdano, attempted to play down such a massive setback, telling AS: "We have good players and a great coach, so this is not a fatal blow.

"Barcelona were superb, playing consistently and with confidence from the start. They scored with their first chance and we found it tough to overcome that.

"On the bad side, we encountered a Barcelona team that were greatly superior. On the good side, we only lost three points. Now we hope to recover."
