From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The outspoken former Germany international hit out at his 'lazy' colleagues following their 5-1 German Cup thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich on Tuesday.
"Criticism should generally not be voiced in public, therefore a fine has been given," revealed coach Markus Babbel.
"We have accepted his apology and that is the end of it."
Lehmann had fumed: "The winter break is not a time to get lazy. And a winter break is even less of a time to return injured, carry on with injuries and go out with injuries again.
"You have to find out what Bayern did during the winter break and what VfB Stuttgart has done.
"They were faster, they were quicker and they were on the spot."
Hertha Berlin have signed experienced Argentinian defender Leandro Cufre from Monaco.
The 30-year-old has joined the mid-table Bundesliga side on a short-term deal until the end of the season.
"I am glad that I am getting a chance to play for such a prestigious club like Hertha," said Cufre.
"I want to ensure that the club achieves its objectives and look forward to playing in the Bundesliga."
Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund have agreed to let defender Robert Kovac return home to Croatia to join Dinamo Zagreb.
Kovac, 34, was out of contract at the end of the season but has been allowed to prematurely end his two-year stay at the Westfalenstadion.
"I am very pleased with the arrival of Robert Kovac, who has played with the world's biggest clubs," said Dinamo coach Marijan Vlak of the former Juventus and Bayern Munich defender.
"It is certain this is an immense gain for us, as it would represent for any other club.
"Our young players will be able to learn a lot about football and professionalism."
