From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Milan beat Internazionale 2-1 at San Siro yesterday to blow open the title race as second-placed Roma won 3-0 at Sampdoria to move just three points behind the Serie A leaders with two games to play.

Filippo Inzaghi and Kaka scored in the space of six minutes early in the second half for Milan, who moved into the final Champions League qualifying place after Fiorentina, previously in fourth, lost 2-1 at Cagliari. Julio Cruz blasted in a free kick to pull one back for Inter, who went into the derby knowing that victory would effectively retain their title.

"In the first half they were better. Then there were two goals and we started to play. I have always thought that the celebrations would come against Siena and not Milan," Roberto Mancini , the Inter coach, said, referring to next weekend's home match with Siena.

Roma are still in the race after Christian Panucci, David Pizarro and Cicinho scored late on at Sampdoria, but coach Luciano Spalletti is not getting excited. "We must be realistic. Inter have had a good season and have all the cards for winning," he said. Roma are sure of second spot after third-placed Juventus lost 1-0 at Siena.

News of Milan's goals at San Siro appeared to energise Roma, who had started poorly in Genoa, and once Panucci had headed in a corner in the 75th minute there was only going to be one winner.

Pizarro's superb shot made it two and Cicinho scored from a counter-attack to dent Sampdoria's hopes of snatching the final Champions League spot.
