Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The French side lost 2-1 but went through on away goals, having led 1-0 from the first leg. They had goalkeeper Steve Mandanda sent off in stoppage time for a wreckless foul, and Giampaolo Pazzini scored from the resultant penalty. But the tie was already beyond Inter following Brandao's cool finish in the 90th minute to cancel out Diego Milito's goal 15 minutes earlier.
In the night's other tie, Mario Gomez scored four times as Bayern Munich ran out 7-0 winners over Basle at the Allianz Arena. Bayern were 1-0 down from the first leg in Switzerland but were in complete control on home soil last night, with Arjen Robben settling any early nerves with an 11th-minute opener. Thomas Müller made it 2-0 in the 41st minute before Gomez went on his scoring rampage to put the tie beyond doubt. Robben got his second nine minutes from time, meaning Bayern had scored seven for the second game in a row, having beaten Hoffenheim 7-1 on Saturday.
