From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The 26-year-old is in South Africa with the Dutch squad ahead of the World Cup and had been reported to be top of Harry Redknapp's transfer list.
However, former Ajax striker Huntelaar insists he has unfinished business at the San Siro, having arrived from Real Madrid in a £15million move during August 2009.
“I see my name in the Italian newspapers and I don't understand why,” Huntelaar said.
“I would like to know who has said that I will be sold, because it doesn't seem like anyone from the club has said anything.
“No other club interests me - my agent has never spoken about a transfer and I want to stay at Milan. I will not leave Milan until I have demonstrated my worth.”
CSKA Moscow’s Serbia international playmaker Milos Krasic is closing in on a move to Serie A giants Juventus.
The 25-year-old has been linked with a number of top clubs across Europe, but is keen to try his luck in Turin next season.
His agent, Dejan Joksimovic, told the Russian media: “There is interest on Manchester United's and Arsenal's behalf, but at the moment, there hasn't been anything concrete.
“As of today, the only offers have come from Fenerbahce and Juventus, but Krasic is not particularly enthusiastic about playing in Turkey.
“He is certainly more attracted to the Juventus project.
“The player likes the Bianconeri's offer, so now it's up to Juve and CSKA to find an agreement.
“I don't believe that the Russians want to block the deal. They know that Krasic has given a lot to CSKA and that the time has come for him to leave.”
Lazio president Claudio Lotito has dismissed continuing rumours linking Serbia left-back Aleksandar Kolarov with a summer move to Real Madrid.
The 24-year-old is keen to try and secure a move to the Bernabeu, but Lotito is adamant that Kolarov is going nowhere.
He told La Repubblica: “Fifteen million euros for Kolarov? I won't even sell his boots for that price.
“He is not for sale and we have not received any offers. He is probably the best in the world in his position and we don't need to sell him.”
Kolarov had earlier been reported as telling AS: “I hope for the best. Recently Lazio club president Claudio Lotito promised me that he would let me leave for Real Madrid.”
