Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The DFB said the pitch invasion during the game on 29 October, which ended 3-1 to Pep Guardiola's team, was caused by a security lapse. The fan also made a rude gesture at the French winger.
Hamburg were fined from offences at a range of matches this season, not just the Bayern clash, where supporters lit flares, threw lighters and used a high-pitch whistle that was "irritating".
"In the 60th minute of the home (league) game against Mainz 05 on 7 December, 2014, a whistle with an irritating sound was used several times from someone in the stands," the DFB said in a statement.
The former European champions, who accepted the fine, are struggling to avoid relegation for the second consecutive season, standing in 14th place, two points above Freiburg who are bottom.
The Bundesliga resumes on 30 January.
