West Ham United sent out an odd tweet before the start of tonight's Champions League final when asking who will win out of Juventus and Barcelona.

There were two former Hammers playing in the final, Javier Mascherano for Barcelona and Carlos Tevez for Juventus but in the tweet, sent from the club's official account (below), they also mentioned Juve's veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

Cue much speculation on social media that the Hammers will pull off the transfer coup of the summer and sign the 37-year-old Italian legend.

One Twitter user simply joked: "Forgot Buffon used to play for West Ham", while another found a quote from Buffon about the Hammers, in which he said: "'I wanted to play for West Ham because of their supporters, they follow the Hammers with an extraordinary energy.''

Away from the commotion, it appears that the tweet was sent because of Buffon's apparent love for West Ham. In his book he said that they were one of five teams he would love to play for.

In the match, Luis Suarez scored midway through the second half before Neymar added a third deep into injury-time to give Barcelona a 3-1 victory in the Champions League final against Juventus in Berlin and secure an incredible treble.
