Gary Neville's shock appointment as Valencia head coach has disappointed many users on Twitter, as he will no longer to able to ofer his expert analysis as a Sky Sports pundit.

Neville will take charge at the Mestalla until the end of the season, with his brother Phil as his assistant.

This means that Neville will no longer be on Sky every weekend, in a job in which he has thrived at, winning many plaudits for his analysis.

Neville is currenty a coach in the England set-up as well, but reports suggest that he will be able to stay on with the international team until Euro 2016.

His sparring partner at Sky, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, has led the reaction to Neville's Sky departure, comparing it to the day when Pegguy Arphexad (remember him?) left the Anfield club.

Here are some of the reaction to Neville's surprise appointment:

On Valencia's website, Neville said: "I am absolutely thrilled to be given this opportunity with Valencia. Valencia are a huge football club of immense standing and I know from my time as a player the passion and dedication of the Valencia fans.

"I am really looking forward to working with the club's talented group of players and am excited about the challenge ahead."

Valencia president Layhoon Chan added: "We are delighted to have secured Gary so quickly.

"He combines top level coaching experience through his role as a senior coach with the England national team and a world-class playing career with England and Manchester United.

"Throughout his career Gary has always shown great leadership both on and off the pitch. He is hugely respected in English football and it was his personal qualities which persuaded us that he was the right choice to lead Valencia until the end of the season."
