The 32-year-old won his first four matches but the recent 2-0 defeat to bitter foes Al Ahly on Tuesday night left Mido’s side seven points adrift of their victors at the top of the table.
The Cairo-born boss, who also played for Middlesbrough, Wigan Athletic and West Ham United, had a six-month spell in charge of Zamalek in 2014 but becomes the third coach to be dismissed this season alone.
During his first period in charge, Mido lifted the Egypt Cup, becoming the youngest Egyptian manager to win a major trophy, but was replaced by Hossam Hassan.
Mohamed Salah takes over as interim coach while the club looks to recruit a foreign boss in the coming days.
Mido scored 22 goals in English football and ended his playing career with Barnsley but made just one appearance at Oakwell.
