Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.FC Barcelona have paid tribute to the victims of the terrorist attacks on Las Ramblas and in Cambrils, a year after Catalunya was rocked by a homegrown cell of jihadists.
On August 17, 2017, 22-year-old Younes Abouyaaqoub drove a rented van onto the pedestrianised Rambla in Barcelona and killed 13 people, injuring over 130. Later that day, other members of the same cell killed another person and injured six others after ramming a car into pedestrians in the town of Cambrils.
The attacks were the deadliest to hit Spain since the Madrid train bombings in 2004, killing 16 people in total and injuring north of 150.
And on the first anniversary of such a dark day in the history of Barcelona, one of its greatest exports paid tribute to those who lost their lives.
"A year on, we remember the victims of the Barcelona and Cambrils attacks" the club said in a tweet. The attached picture highlights La Rambla in the distance.
Barcelona kick off their new season this weekend, hosting Alavés at the Nou Camp on Saturday night.
