From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Former Barcelona defender Eric Abidal got himself a little bit confused in the TV studio as Juventus beat Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Abidal, who retired just before Christmas, was working for beIN Sports at Juventus Stadium, alongside former Real Madrid defender Michel Salgado, former Liverpool man Luis Garcia and ex-Manchester United striker Andy Cole.

The 35-year-old decided to share a group photo on his Twitter page... but mistook Cole for his one-time strike partner Dwight Yorke.

Yorke and Cole were a massive part of Manchester United's 1998-99 treble winning campaign, where they scored 53 goals between them that season.

Abidal quickly deleted the picture after it started to get attention on the site, replacing it with the proper caption.
