Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Real Madrid coach Rafa Benitez has strongly hinted that he will make more signings for Real this summer, with Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea continued to be heavily linked with a return to Spain.
De Gea has been linked with the transfer all summer long, with recent reports that the deal will be completed imminently.
The goalkeeper, 24, has just one year remaining on his contract at Manchester United.
"We have a good team, but coaches always want to improve," Benitez said after his side's pre-seaoson 1-0 Audi Cup final defeat to Bayern Munich. "The market is open until August 31."
Earlier today, De Gea's girlfriend, the popstar Edurne Garcia, has seemingly confirmed that the Manchester United goalkeeper's transfer to Real is complete.
El Mundo reported that Garcia was caught off-microphone while taking part in a TV interview in Spain on Wednesday night suggesting that her boyfriend's move to the Spanish giants is done.
"Now, when he is in Madrid," she reportedly said, "everything will be much easier."
It is not the first time Garcia, known professionally as just Edurne, has upset the Old Trafford faithful. Back in March she agreed that Manchester was "uglier than the back of a fridge".
