From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The agent of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jorge Mendes, has been placed second on Forbes' list of richest agents, behind Major League Baseball's agent Scott Boras.

Mendes, 49, was revealed to have negotiated contracts for his clients worth a total of £627.88m - earning him £62.76m in the process, according to Forbes. Also on the books of the Portuguese's agency, Gestifute, are current Chelsea pair Diego Costa and Radamel Falcao, Real Madrid stars Cristiano Ronaldo and James Rodriguez, former Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria and United goalkeeper David De Gea.

But his figures have been beaten by Scott Boras, who earned £76.8m in commission from his contract negotiations in Major League Baseball and tops Forbes’ list.

Third in Forbes’ list is the NFL's Tom Condon.

Gareth Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, comes in at number four on the list. Barnett, who also represents Luke Shaw and Joe Hart, has earned around £28.8m in commission, according to Forbes.
