A Chelsea player reported the incident to referee the German referee Tobias Stieler at full-time, after beating Kiev 5-0 in their Europa League round-of-16 second leg to advance to the quarter-finals with an 8-0 aggregate win.
The player in question is reportedly Callum Hudson-Odoi, the teenager who scored Chelsea’s fifth goal in the thrashing.
In a statement, Chelsea said: “We can confirm a report of racist abuse directed at one of our players in the final minutes of the match in Kiev from a small section of home supporters. We wholeheartedly condemn such abhorrent behaviour.
“The matter was reported to the referee at the final whistle and the chairman and club secretary spoke to the Uefa match delegate immediately after the match. We expect Uefa to conduct a fulsome investigation and we will provide full cooperation.”
In 2015, Uefa hit Kiev with a three-match stadium ban following racist attacks on black Chelsea supporters. Shocking footage was released by Football Against Racism in Europe (Fare) and passed to the governing body. The club was also fined €100,000 (£70,000).
