From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Jose Mourinho's side were taking on the French champions in the first-leg of their Round of 16 match.
One image appears to show a window to the rear of the vehicle to have been broken.
Another image of the team bus shows police inspecting the vehicle after it became wedged whilst trying to drive down a ramp.
Sources in Paris say reports of a missile hitting the bus have been dismissed by Chelsea and that the issues relate to driver error.
There are no reports of anyone being hurt in the incident, with Chelsea's official twitter feed simply stating that the club had arrived at PSG's Parc de Princes stadium an hour-and-a-half before the 7.45pm kick off.
Chelsea failed to keep a clean sheet tonight after taking the lead, prompting many jokes on social media about failing to park the bus. Seemingly pre-empting tonight's problems, on Saturday the official English twitter feed of PSG mocked Jose Mourinho's defensive tendencies as Zlatan Ibramimovic's side held on to a 2-0 lead during their Ligue 1 match with Caen.
The wrote: "87' PSG forced to "Park the Bus" (shout out to Jose Mourinho!) in the final minutes #PSGSMC".
The match ended 1-1.
