From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Real, who brought on Gareth Bale with 23 minutes to go, took an early lead when Ronaldo rounded Juve goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon and finished superbly from a tight angle in the fourth minute.
Spain striker Fernando Llorente levelled for the Italian champions in the 22nd minute before the referee ruled Giorgio Chiellini had impeded Sergio Ramos at a free-kick in the penalty area and Ronaldo put away the spot kick.
Chiellini had a night to forget as he was shown a red card three minutes into the second half when he checked Ronaldo's run down the right with a flailing arm and 10-man Juve hardly threatened Real's goal for the rest of the game.
Roberto Mancini inspired Galatasaray to their first group stage win of the season, the former Manchester City manager's side storming into a 3-0 lead at home to Copenhagen by half-time. Wesley Sneijder, Didier Drogba, Felipe Melo put Gala in charge, Emmanuel Eboué setting up two of the goals. Claudemir got a late consolation for the visitors.
Also not wasting much time was Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who grabbed a first-half 18-minute hat-trick as Paris Saint-Germain brushed aside Anderlecht 5-0 in Brussels. Ibrahimovic ended up with four goals but it was his stunningly powerful 30-yard half-volley for his third goal that really caught the eye. Edinson Cavani got the other PSG goal, while Ibrahimovic missed a good chance at the end to become only the second player after Lionel Messi to score five in a Champions League game.
