From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The former Chelsea striker Crespo found the net with a fierce volley - after Dejan Stankovic's chip bisected the Sporting Lisbon defence - to give Internazionale a 1-0 victory at San Siro. Inter have now qualified for the last 16.
In the earlier kick-off in Group B, it finished 2-2 between Spartak Moscow and Bayern Munich. Radoslav Kovac's second-half goal brought the hosts level after a Claudio Pizarro doubled had edged the Germans in front. Maksim Kalinichenko scored the first goal of the night for CSKA, who are bottom of the group. Bayern have qualified.
"We won a point but gave up two points," said Bayern's coach, Felix Magath. "But it was a good game. We were very quick and passed the ball well. What we missed in the second half was that, while leading 2-1, we didn't control the ball and tried to score a third too quickly."
The Spartak coach, Vladimir Fedotov, was pleased with the outcome, likening the opposition to a well-made German car. "We played against one of the best teams in Europe," he said. "Bayern are like a Mercedes, they never break down. Still, I'm very happy how we fought to get that second goal."
In Liverpool's group, Group C, goals from Alejandro Alonso, the former Sunderland striker Lilian Laslandes and Julien Faubert earned Bordeaux a 3-1 victory at home to Galatasaray to send the French side into the Uefa Cup. They were the first goals Bordeaux have scored in the competition.
To complete a poor night for the Turks, Galatasaray midfielder Arda Turan, who only played after passing a late fitness test, was sent off for violent conduct, although the former Fulham, West Bromwich and Arsenal midfielder Inamoto did pull back a late consolation. Liverpool and PSV have already qualified.
Morientes, the former Liverpool striker, scored Valencia's second goal in a 2-0 win at home to Olympiakos after Miguel Angulo had put injury-hit Valencia ahead.
Ciprian Marica scored the only goal of the game as Shakhtar Donetsk surprised Roma with a 1-0 victory. Valencia are through as group winners. Shakhtar's win means they are battling it out with Roma to go through.
