The Champions League final will be an all-Madrid affair in Milan on Saturday evening and BetVictor Brand Ambassador Michael Owen thinks it will be Atletico who get revenge in the San Siro for their extra-time loss at the hands of the Whites in Lisbon two years ago.

Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid

This will be the sixth one-country Champions League final, but only the second between clubs from the same city after Real’s 4-1 win in Lisbon a couple of years ago. That was my old club’s tenth Champions League triumph but it must be remembered that “La Decima” was not exactly straightforward with Atletico leading from the 36th minute (Diego Godin) to deep into stoppage time when another centre-back Sergio Ramos headed the equaliser.

There were 12 yellow cards on the night (five coming in extra time) and Premier League official Mark Clattenburg looks set for a busy night; the referee was not without criticism of his performance at Wembley last weekend and let’s hope he has a good night in what is sure to be a white-hot atmosphere both on and off the pitch.

I don’t expect to see many goals at the San Siro and think Atleti can nick it; they are likely to try and sit back and hit Real on the break but in Antoine Griezmann and Fernando Torres they have the players who can do just that.

It might not be pretty but Diego Simeone’s side are pretty effective and Atletico are taken to become the 23rd club to win the European Cup/Champions League in what will be their third final having also lost to Bayern in the 1974 final in Brussels.

It would be a magnificent achievement to knock out Barcelona in the quarter-finals, Bayern in the semi-final and Real Madrid in the final but that is what Atletico are on the brink of; and I think they will do it.

Michael’s recommendations: prices from BetVictor
