From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Italy goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon, is unlikely to leave Juventus at least until next summer, according to his agent. The possibility had been raised that the World Cup winner could move to Chelsea following the long-term injury to Petr Cech.

However, Silvano Martina, who has represented Buffon for 12 years, believes such a move is unlikely - although he admits the player was "honoured" by the link. "Officially there has been no contact so far," Martina said. "We are saddened with what has happened to Cech. It's normal that a great club like Chelsea would show an interest or would be interested in one of the top goalkeepers in the world."

Martina admitted that a Chelsea offer would be tempting for Juventus but he believes Buffon remains committed to Juve despite their relegation for match-fixing. "He had lots of offers in Italy and elsewhere this summer and turned them down," he said.
