From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The 33-year-old England international will finish the season at the San Siro before heading back to the USA to re-join LA Galaxy, having initially been expected to head stateside next week.
Ancelotti said after the 3-0 win at home to Atalanta: “David Beckham has done more than we could have possibly expected from him.
“He has settled in very well with the squad and given a huge contribution up to now. He is very professional and we are all very, very happy that he is staying.
“The aim was to keep him until June 30 and we have done that. He is very happy with the solution that has been found and we will make the most of having him now and then we will see.
“The two clubs met and agreed on a compromise which matched the player's wishes.
“It was not possible to make it a permanent move so we have him temporarily. In November we will have to see what happens.”
Beckham had earlier voiced his own delight at being able to extend his loan stay with Milan.
A statement from Beckham read: "I'm really grateful to the LA Galaxy and AC Milan for making this dream deal happen.
"It allows me to play for AC Milan and the LA Galaxy in the same year, and at the same time to continue my commitment to develop soccer in the United States, which is something I am passionate about.
"My family is happy and settled and will remain in LA.
"The perfect result for 2009 would be for me to help Milan to reach the Champions League and for the LA Galaxy to make the play-offs and win the MLS Cup."
Juventus midfielder Mohamed Sissoko is set to miss the rest of the season after suffering a serious foot injury in the 1-0 derby win at Torino on Saturday evening.
The 24-year-old former Liverpool and Valencia man only came on as a late substitute in the Turin derby, but was on the pitch long enough to fracturing a metatarsal in his left foot.
A statement on the club’s official website read: “During the league game against Torino, Mohamed Sissoko suffered an injury to his left foot which caused a fracture to his metatarsal.
“X-rays after the game showed that the fracture is to the fifth metatarsal and is a compound one.
“The treatment and recovery period will be evaluated in the next few days.”
