Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

If the Ligue 1 champions are to reach the semi-final, they are going to have to score at least three goals - no matter what - and hope they can keep Lionel Messi, Luis Saurez and Neymar quiet.
On paper it is a formidable task, Luis Enrique's men are in stunning form with just one defeat and one draw in their last 24 matches.
Here are a couple of reason's how PSG can beat beat Barcelona.
BARCELONA HAVE STRUGGLED IN EUROPE SINCE PEP'S DEPARTURE
In Pep Guardiola's three-year spell as manager of Barcelona, he made them the kings of Europe, winning the Champions League twice in two of those seasons (2009 and 2011) and getting to the semi-final in 2010.
Barcelona own the best home record in the Champions League over the past 10 years.
But, in the three seasons since his departure, Barcelona have reached the semi-finals twice but gone no further - and poor performances in front of their home fans were to blame.
In 2012 it was Chelsea produced the perfect game plan at the Nou Camp, playing a deep line and on the counter with just 10 men. Barcelona went 2-0 up but goals from Ramires and an injury-time equaliser (Chelsea were already through) from Fernando Torres saw the Blues reach the final, where they famously beat Bayern Munich.
A year later Jupp Heynckes' rampant Germans were on their way to a treble when they ripped Barcelona apart over two legs, winning 7-0 on aggregate after one of the best performances by an opposing team at the Nou Camp in years.
Last season it was another defensive display and a moment of brilliance that allowed Atletico Madrid to secure a 1-1 draw to take back to the Vicente Calderon. After Diego scored a cracker from long-range Barcelona huffed and puffed and although they were able to find an equaliser they were never able to get an important second.
PSG's task is much tougher than any of these, but Barcelona have choked at home in each of the last three seasons.
THE RETURN OF ZLATAN
The great Swedish striker already has a goal at the Nou Camp this season, coming in the 3-1 group stage defeat in December. After missing the first leg because of a dodgy red card against Chelsea, one can imagine that Ibrahimovic will be desperate to make up for lost time.
He still has a chip on his shoulder about his exit from Barcelona after his single season at the club was deemed a failure - he blames other factors rather than just his play.
Zlatan is PSG's talisman and they have lost just one of the last 15 matches in which he has played - they are a much more formidable team with the striker in the side.
Tenacious midfielder Marco Verratti is also back for this game.
PSG HAVE BEATEN BARCELONA THIS SEASON
Barcelona are a completely different team to the side who lost at the Parc des Princes in September, when Luis Suarez was still serving his suspension and Gerard Pique was out of favour (even if they had been unbeaten when they entered the game).
But the precedent is there and Blanc's men should take confidence that they can beat the Catalans.

We're just going to ignore the fact that Thiago Silva is missing, that Luis Suarez is again playing like the third best player in the world (14 goals in his last 16 games), that Lionel Messi has re-established himself above Cristiano Ronaldo in the current pecking order of the world's best and that PSG never looked like doing the Catalans any damage on home turf.
Oh, and that 3-0 Bayern Munich win was the only time a team has scored three goals (what PSG need) at the Nou Camp in 55 matches since 2005. They've lost just four games (Chelsea and Atletico Madrid were draws that saw the teams score away goals).
Yeah, they have no chance.
