From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Your support makes all the difference.Barcelona and Atletico Madrid meet at the Nou Camp this weekend in a game that will decide La Liga title.
Heading into the final game of the Spanish season, Atletico are on 89 points, three clear of Barcelona. Real Madrid, on 84 points, are not in contention.
A win or draw for Diego Simeone's side will be enough to see the Atletico win their first title since the 1995/96 season.
If Barcelona win the sides will be level on points at the top of the table. Gerardo Martino's side have a better goal difference, however this isn't what will decide who finishes above the other. In Spain if teams are level on points, the head-to-head record is used to determine who comes out on top. The sides drew 0-0 when they met earlier in the season, meaning a win for Barcelona this weekend will make them champions.
So which way will the title go? The sides have already met five times this term and Barcelona are still yet to win a game outright.
They played twice in the Spanish Super Cup, drawing 1-1 at the Vicente Calderon and then 0-0 at the Nou Camp - it meant Barcelona won on away goals. They then had their 0-0 league meeting before being paired together in the Champions League quarter-finals. They drew 1-1 at the Nou Camp before they were split by a single goal, coming from Koke, in the second leg.
Should Atletico fail to win the title they will have only themselves to blame. The side spearheaded by Diego Costa could have secured the title before going into the last game of the season but drew their most recent match against Malaga. They lost the match before that, going down 2-0 to Levante.
Barcelona's form coming into the final game isn't much better - they drew their two most recent league games, against Getafe and Elche.
The match kicks off at 5pm on Saturday.
