Mesut Ozil has joked that Arsenal team-mate Mathieu Flamini should win the Ballon d'Or.

The award for the best player in the world will be handed out tonight, with Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi the three players in the running.

Ozil, the Gunners' standout performer this season, believes the prize should go to the Gunners' utility man.

Flamini has, it needs to be said, never been on the losing side in a league match at the Emirates Stadium.

In a Twitter question and answer session, Ozil wrote:

And then when pressed on who should win, Ozil stuck to his guns.

Only last week, Ozil spoke about how much he enjoyed Flamini's company, describing him as the "funniest guy in the dressing room".

"The funniest guy in the dressing room is, for me of course, Mathieu Flamini,"he said.

"We spend a lot of time together and he is the funniest guy."
