From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. At first it was the internet, then his captain Francesco Totti - now Ashley Cole has faced more mocking for the awkward team photograph that emerged last week.

Peterborough United are the latest to get in on the act of embarrassing the former England and Chelsea left back.

The League One club released their official team photograph yesterday but it had a surprising addition in the form of the 33-year-old.

The picture, which now has more than 6,500 retweets on social networking site Twitter, said: "Roma player Ashley Cole snuck into our squad photo today at London Road."

Cole has so far taken the jokes in great stride, retweeting and replying to a number of them on his own Twitter page - though he is yet to respond to Peterborough's effort.

Cole makes his Serie A debut on 30 August at home to Fiorentina.
