Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The 27-year-old midfielder has already seen moves to England and Spain fall through after his current club, Zenit St Petersburg, refused to budge on their £25million asking price following his starring role in Euro 2008.
Arshavin has publicly criticised the Russian club for their unrealistic valuation, but has welcomed reports that Bayern might be interested in signing him when the transfer window reopens in January.
"I don't want to play for Zenit any more," he told German media. "Playing for Bayern is a dream."
Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed their intention to sign FC Basel striker Eren Derdiyok in January.
Derdiyok, 20, is a full international for Switzerland and was the youngest player to take part in the European Championship finals during the summer.
The Basel-born starlet's stock rose further when he scored the equaliser in his hometown's 1-1 Champions League draw with Barcelona at the beginning of November.
Leverkusen's general manager Michael Reschke said: "It is a matter for negotiations.
"We would like to sign Eren on January 1, but if this isn't possible then we can wait until the summer.
"We want to reach an agreement with FC Basel soon."
