Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Mesut Özil scored the first hat-trick of his professional career with three second-half goals, adding to Alexis Sanchez's opener and Theo Walcott's eight goal of the season. The third came through Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain immediately after the break, before Özil took centre stage as Arsenal showed their class.
The victory keeps Arsene Wenger's side top of Group A, although they remain level on points with Paris Saint-Germain after the French side beat Basel 3-0 in Paris.
Arsenal remain ahead of PSG due to their away goal in the 1-1 draw with PSG earlier in the season, although that could all change with three games still to go in the group stage. Arsenal can guarantee qualification to the last-16 with a win in Bulgaria in two weeks' time should Basel fail to beat PSG, with the two group heavyweights then meeting at the Emirates where a victory would go a long way to securing top spot for either side.
