Manchester United fans were bemoaning the sale of Angel Di Maria to PSG as the Argentinian provided a reminder of his talents in his club's Champions League tie with Chelsea with a man-of-the-match performance.

The first-leg of the Last-16 tie at the Parc de Princes represented the first time Di Maria had lined up against English opposition since his rapid departure from the Premier League.

Having moved to Old Trafford from Real Madrid in a £59.7m deal in 2014, the World Cup finalist was supposed to become Manchester United's new superstar. However, after a promising start the winger faded. Personal issues, including an attempted burglary of his home, and struggles to adapt to the English game conspired against him and by the end of his debut season he was rarely in Louis van Gaal's starting XI.

So when PSG came calling last summer, Di Maria's sale was sanctioned.

Since joining the French outfit, Di Maria has scored nine goals in Ligue 1 and three in the Champions League prior to the tie with Chelsea. In addition he has 10 assists to his name with his new club. During Tuesday's tie he continued to show why not so long ago he was regarded as among the best players in the world, much to the heartbreak of Manchester United supporters and delight of their detractors...

Di Maria will return to England for the first time since his Manchester United exit when PSG defend their slim 2-1 advantage over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the second leg on 9 March .
