Tonight’s Carabao Cup quarter-final will go straight to penalties should it finish as a draw after 90 minutes, with extra-time only coming into play from the semi-final stage of the competition.

Chelsea knocked out Newcastle on penalties on Tuesday night as the Carabao Cup quarter-finals began, while Everton had the chance to do the same to Fulham - only for Amadou Onana to miss and the Cottagers to progress instead. Middlesbrough are the last non-Premier League side in the draw, after they beat Port Vale.

This evening, Wednesday, Liverpool take on West Ham at Anfield in the last of the quarter-final ties.

The draw for the semi-finals will take place at the conclusion of Liverpool vs West Ham. The semi-final stage of the Carabao Cup will played across two legs in January, in the weeks commencing the 8th and 21st.

In the semi-finals, extra time will be played should the aggregate score be level at the end of the second leg, followed by penalties if required.

The same rules are then used for the Carabao Cup final, which is scheduled for 25 February 2024 at Wembley Stadium.

Similarly, VAR is only introduced to the Carabao Cup from the semi-final stage onwards.

Who is in the semi-final draw?

Fulham

Chelsea

Middlesbrough

Liverpool or West Ham
