The Gunners lost on penalties to a spirited Sporting CP side, with Gabriel Martinelli missing the decisive penalty. The result means another year without major European glory for Arsenal, but they have the opportunity to put the result behind them as they look to go eight points clear in their hunt for a first league title since 2004.
Arteta does have injury concerns though, with William Saliba and Takehiro Tomiyasu both coming off injured early on against Sporting. Eddie Nketiah remains a doubt but Gabriel Jesus started his first game since the World Cup against the Primeira Liga side.
Crystal Palace will arrive at the Emirates with a new caretaker manager after Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira was sacked on Friday. Despite a promising start to his tenure, the Eagles are winless this year and sit just three points above the relegation zone.
Palace fans will be hopeful of a shock result as they travel across the capital looking to put a huge dent in Arsenal’s title hopes.

Prediction
Both teams will be reeling after midweek events, with Palace fans hoping that their side are buoyed by their caretaker manager and are capable of putting in a defiant performance. Arsenal will be hurt after Thursday’s loss in a game they really should have won, but will look to put any demons behind them as they attempt to go eight point clear. With no other competitions to compete for, expect Arteta to name his strongest possible team. They have been a joy to watch at times this season, and fans will expect them to resume that form straight away. Taking all these factors into account, it is difficult to see anything other than a win for the Gunners. Arsenal 3-1 Crystal Palace
