Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The curtain fell on Alan Hansen's 22-year career on the Match of the Day sofa at the World Cup final last night.
Hansen has uttered some immortal lines during his tenure as a pundit.
'Shocking', 'abysmal', 'terrible' and 'pace in abundance' are just a few of Hansen's quips that have become common terms in the football lexicon, while his uttering "You'll win nothing with kids" has been immortalised because, Manchester United did, in fact, win plenty with those players.
Film-maker Steve Chappell has now produced a brilliant nod to Hansen's long career on YouTube, condensing his often sublime punditry into a short two minute video.
Speaking at the end of the game last night, Hansen said: "I've been in football for 41 years and I'm going out right at the top, just as I did at Liverpool.
"I have worked for a great organisation with wonderful people on the most fantastic programme."
He will be missed.
