ANDY ROXBURGH, the Scotland coach, is facing the familiar problem of withdrawals from his squad for next week's World Cup qualifier in Portugal. He is due to trim his preliminary squad of 31 players to a travelling party of about 20 today, and he has already lost two men: Alex McLeish and Nicky Walker.
Aberdeen's veteran defender, McLeish, who won his 77th cap against Malta in February, was injured at Partick on Tuesday, while Walker, the Hearts goalkeeper, has damaged a calf muscle. Roxburgh also awaits fitness verdicts on Tom Boyd of Celtic, Alan McLaren of Hearts, Aberdeen's Duncan Shearer and Stewart McKimmie, and Dundee United's Dave Bowman and Jim McInally.
