From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

ION VLADOIU, the Romanian substitute who was sent off for a high tackle on Switzerland's Christophe Ohrel in Wednesday's 4-1 Group A defeat in Detroit, has been suspended for three matches. Fifa also fined the player 7,500 Swiss francs ( pounds 3,465). Vladoiu misses the match against the United States on Sunday and, if the Romanians qualify, they will be unable to call on him for the second-round and quarter-final matches.

Cup-Reyna American out of World Cup MISSION VIEJO, California, June 23 (AFP) - Claudio Reyna, the youngest player in the United States squad, was ruled out of the World Cup on Thursday by a torn right hamstring.

The midfielder, 20, was injured in training two weeks ago and the American trainer, Andy Rudawsky, said: 'Thjere's no chance he'll play in this World Cup.' AFP
