From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

JACK WALKER is planning a clear-out at Ewood Park. The Blackburn Rovers owner is willing to sanction the sale of many of the players who cost a fortune before ultimately costing Brian Kidd his job as manager.

Seven players were dropped on Saturday following Walker's criticisms in the light of Kidd's sacking. One big name on the way out is England Under-21 striker Matt Jansen, one of Kidd's most expensive buys.

Per Frandsen, Kidd's last signing, may also depart. The midfielder was dropped at the weekend as the caretaker manager, Tony Parkes, recalled Jason McAteer and young David Dunn.

The goalkeeper John Filan and the club captain, Jason Wilcox, were left out against Ipswich, days after they had questioned Walker and the Rovers chief executive, John Williams, about the way the club is run.

David Ginola may be able to clear Arsenal's Fredrik Ljungberg over his red card on Sunday by telling the Football Association that he was not butted by the Swedish winger during the north London derby.

Yesterday, Ginola said: "He did not head-butt me." The Frenchman believes he may have been hit by an object thrown from the crowd.

West Ham are ready to transfer-list Paul Kitson. The 28-year-old striker was again left out for Sunday's goalless draw with Chelsea and is unhappy at his limited first-team opportunities.

The West Ham manager, Harry Redknapp, is prepared to listen to offers for the former Newcastle and Derby forward.

Third Division strugglers Shrewsbury Town have sacked their manager, Jake King. The club, who have taken one point from eight games, will be prepared for Friday's match at home to Swansea by Chic Bates.

The Rangers midfielder Jorg Albertz had a brick thrown through the window of his home hours after Sunday's Old Firm game with Celtic at Ibrox. Police are investigating an attack on the player's house in Helensburgh.

Newcastle United will ask the Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna to let the defender Rodrigues Helder join them on loan until the end of the season. Helder has spent the last month on trial at St James' Park.

Bradford have granted the goalkeeper Mark Prudhoe a free transfer, enabling him to join Southend in a player-coach capacity. Including loan spells Prudhoe, who was 36 yesterday, is joining his 16th club.
