From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

MIKE WALKER, the Everton manager, is expected to complete the signing of Martin Dahlin over the weekend. He has agreed a fee of pounds 1.84m with Borussia Moenchengladbach for the Swedish striker, who could become Everton's first black player for 20 years.

Dahlin is in America with the Swedish World Cup squad and Walker said: 'We've tabled a bid and we are awaiting the outcome. Ideally I would like to get it tied up before the World Cup really gets started.'

If Walker fails to sign Dahlin he may bid for Chris Armstrong, who is valued at pounds 2m by Crystal Palace.

Manchester City have agreed a pounds 1.5m fee with Swindon Town for their defender Nicky Summerbee, the son of the former Maine Road player, Mike. Brian Horton, the Manchester City manager, tried to sign Summerbee just before the transfer deadline last season, but that bid was rejected.

Derek Pavis, the Notts County chairman, has issued an ultimatum to the players arguing over their contracts. Mark Draper, the England Under-21 player, is one of 18 players who are stalling over offers of new contracts.

'I've made Mark the best offer I've made to any player in my seven years at this club,' Pavis said. 'I've also made very favourable offers to every other player whose contract is about to expire.

'I can't do any more with the

income that we get through the turnstiles, and I'm not prepared to run this club into debt.'
