Football: Visas clear Partizan for Leeds' Dutch date

LEEDS UNITED'S Uefa Cup first-round tie against Partizan Belgrade will go ahead in the Netherlands on Tuesday after visas were issued to the Yugoslavian team yesterday. Partizan officials had raised fears that the game at Heerenveen would be called off and that they would be thrown out of the competition if the visas did not arrive in time.

Uefa, European football's governing body, moved the match to the Netherlands after ruling that it could not be played in Belgrade because of the Balkans conflict.

Nicolas Anelka has met the Real Madrid president, Lorenzo Sanz, and his team-mates to counter reports that he wanted to quit the game. "It was a warm, friendly meeting. I assured [Sanz] the reports were not true," the 20-year-old former Arsenal striker said.

The Charlton striker Steve Jones has joined Bristol City in a deal worth up to pounds 500,000.
