Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Heart of Midlothian 2 Celtic 4

MARK VIDUKA scored twice as Celtic grabbed the honours at Tynecastle Park last night. From the outset Hearts' sluggish defence struggled to cope with the pace of Henrik Larsson and Regi Blinker allied to the power of Mark Viduka. With only two minutes played the visitors took the lead when Vidar Riseth headed in Blinker's corner.

Six minutes later Blinker added a second. Tosh McKinlay found Larsson on the left and the Swede's cut-back was hammered home. Hearts retaliatedwhen Stephane Adam's 25-yard free-kick hit McKinlay before looping over Jonathan Gould. Hearts' recovery was short-lived. Blinker split the defence to allow Viduka to chip a goal.

Barry John Corr was brought on for his debut to replace the injured Gould. The hosts quickly took advantage when Adam drilled a low shot beyond the youngster after the restart.

The visitors once more quickly extinguished any faint hope Hearts had of a recovery with a fourth goal when a McKinlay cross was knocked in by Viduka.
