From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The goalkeeper went for a scan on his head and, in particular, his cheekbone yesterday and the tests revealed bruising but no fracture. Van der Gouw is now likely to play at Highfield Road. The news will be a relief to the United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, as Mark Bosnich is still unavailable and the only other option is the 21-year-old Nick Culkin.
Ferguson also may have the England defender Gary Neville available as he seems to have recovered from a pelvic injury.
Meanwhile, Ferguson is attempting to sign Milan's Danish player, Thomas Helveg. He could tempt the Italian champions to sell the versatile Dane before they meet in Europe this season. Helveg is ideal for United's needs as he can play right or left-back, right midfield or even central midfield and his adaptability is perfect for the injury-hit squad.
Milan will be reluctant to do business although if they sign the Dutch midfielder, Clarence Seedorf, from Real Madrid they could be open to offers at around pounds 6 to pounds 7m.
Robbie Blake, the Bradford City striker, has been taken off the transfer list by his manager Paul Jewell. Blake had initially been listed after refusing a new deal with the Bantams following their promotion from the First Division last season, during which he scored 17 goals.
"We're hoping that by doing this we can get rid of all the uncertainty where Robbie is concerned and hoping he can get back to doing what he does best - which is scoring goals," Jewell said.
The Fulham manager, Paul Bracewell, is ready to attempt to sign Graham Kavanagh, the Stoke City midfielder. Kavanagh is valued at around pounds 1m.
Steve Bruce, the Huddersfield Town manager, is ready to sign the 28-year- old Dutch midfielder Dean Gorre from Ajax in a bargain deal.
Bolton Wanderers are close to a massive pounds 6m cash boost from finally selling their old Burnden Park ground. The hard-up club have found a un-named buyer for the old site that has been a financial burden since they moved to the Reebok Stadium two years ago.
Now Bolton hope to complete a sale shortly and balance their books. However, the price is still just half of the original pounds 12m they wanted to raise from the old ground.
