Your support makes all the difference.TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR are trying to sign Vass Borbokis from Sheffield United. Spurs' director of football, David Pleat, has put in an offer of just over pounds 1m Borbokis, who can play at right-back or on the wing, as Tottenham look for new blood.
Borbokis made a major impact for United last season after arriving from AEK Athens, but he grew restless and wants to play in the top flight. United want pounds 1.5m for Borbokis, but they are prepared sell because their player-manager, Steve Bruce, needs generate funds to sign new players.
Manchester City's manager, Joe Royle, wants the Southampton centre-back Ken Monkou to help him out of a crisis. Royle has asked Saints if he can have the Dutchman for a knock-down fee or on loan to replace his injured Georgian, Kakhaber Tskhadadze. Monkou is out of the Southampton first team.
City have helped Saints by giving them Scott Hiley and hope to have the favour returned as they need an experienced defender.
Southampton's manager, Dave Jones, is to reward the defender Hiley with a permanent move to The Dell after his surprise debut against Liverpool on Sunday, when he played out of position on the left side of defence. The 29-year-old is out of contract at Maine Road and available on a free transfer. He was recommended to Jones by Southampton's assistant manager, Terry Cooper, who was his manager at Exeter City.
Jones said: "Scott has done really well since he arrived on trial in pre-season and we have already had talks to sort out his future."
Aston Villa's goalkeeper, Mark Bosnich, has insisted that he did not swear at Everton fans during the opening game of the season at Goodison Park last Saturday. Merseyside Police have launched an investigation into the allegations.
Bosnich is adamant that he did nothing wrong. The Australian international said: "This is all ridiculous. It never happened. When the final whistle went I just turned round and made a gesture of triumph to the crowd because we had won a hard-earned point."
Karlheinz Riedle believes his burgeoning strike partnership with Michael Owen can take Liverpool to their first title since 1990. The combination made a winning start at Southampton when both of them scored in a 2-1 victory.
But the German said it is the depth of quality at Anfield which will swing the race for the Premiership in the Reds' favour. "We have a good team and a good squad and a lot of the players are high quality," Riedle said. "I think we are good enough to win something and I hope we can win the title. "There is now a good mix in the dressing-room. Everyone can learn from each other."
