Arsenal v Tottenham

Last season: 3-1

Last five League matches: Arsenal WDWWD; Tottenham LLLWW

Bould is doubtful after damaging an ankle midweek, Marshall stands by to step in to the Arsenal defence. Tottenham manager Francis may gamble on Campbell, who has been included in an 18-man squad after damaging knee ligaments only two weeks ago. Ginola is ruled out.

Aston Villa v Leeds Utd

Last season: 2-1

Last five League matches: Aston Villa WLLLL; Leeds DDWLL

Villa may field summer signing Grayson as a replacement for Townsend following the midfielder's move to Middlesbrough. Molenaar is expected to line up for Leeds despite missing training with an ankle injury, while Wetherall is also in contention. Bowyer may return for Haland.

Chelsea v Southampton

Last season: 1-0

Last five League matches: Chelsea DWLWW; Southampton WLLLW

Leboeuf returns after illness and manager Gullit also includes himself in Chelsea's squad. Southampton are without Le Tissier (broken arm), Lundekvam (shoulder), Slater (hernia), Charlton (foot) and Venison (back); Ostenstad (ankle), Oakley (Achilles) and Hughes (groin) are doubtful.

C Palace v Blackburn

Last season: Did not play

Last five League matches: Palace DWLWL; Blackburn LWWDW

Palace are likely to be unchanged. Blackburn's McKinlay (groin) and Wilcox (ribs) will undergo fitness tests before manager Hodgson finalises his side. Duff stands by as cover, while Henchoz returns after recovering from a head wound and Gallacher has recovered from a back injury.

Derby v Barnsley

Last season: Did not play

Last five League matches: Derby DWLLL; Barnsley LLWLW

Derby expect to welcome back Baiano, their pounds 1.5m signing from Fiorentina, after a thigh strain, but Burton is away on World Cup duty with Jamaica and Sturridge is a doubt with a knee problem. The German goalkeeper Leese will make his full debut for Barnsley as Watson recovers from concussion.

Man Utd v Coventry

Last season: 3-1

Last five League matches: Manchester Utd WWWDW; Coventry WWLDD

Cole is set for his first start of the season after recovering from surgery on an abcess. Scholes is likely to make way in the United line-up. Coventry captain McAllister will undergo a late fitness test on the knee injury that has ruled him out for the last two matches. Huckerby also faces a test on a hamstring strain.

Sheff Wed v Leicester

Last season: 2-1

Last five League matches: Sheffield Wed DLLDL; Leicester WWWDD

Wednesday striker Booth is out for a month after having a cartilage removed, Pembridge has a torn calf muscle and Oakes has torn knee ligaments, while Blondeau (virus), Walker (virus), Collins (leg) and Donaldson (leg) are doubtful. Leicester's Marshall is fit again after a knee problem and he could replace Claridge.

West Ham v Wimbledon

Last season: 0-2

Last five League matches: West Ham LWWLD; Wimbledon WWDDL

The Hammers striker Kitson hopes to be fully fit after playing at Coventry with a virus. Wimbledon give late fitness tests to midfielder Jones, who missed the midweek defeat to Chelsea with a calf strain and a chest infection, and left-back Thatcher, who has had flu.

Newcastle full-back Pearce is out after tweaking a hamstring and should be replaced by Howey. Peacock is not yet fully match-fit after recovering from a double groin operation. Fowler and Leonhardsen are still not fit to return for Liverpool, so manager Evans is expected to keep the side which beat Leeds on Tuesday.
