Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Aston Villa v Crystal Palace

Barrett is set to make his first full appearance of the season for Villa, after a summer operation to repair a damaged nerve in his leg. Richardson will revert to his accustomed midfield role, while King makes way for Staunton in the other full-back berth. Coleman (ankle) is doubtful for Palace, who may push Southgate back to partner Shaw, preferred to Young. Dyer is expected to retain his place in attack because Preece still has a bruised back.

Blackburn Rovers v Coventry

Rovers should be unchanged, with Hendry fit after a midweek leg knock. Coventry's sought-after defender, Babb, who missed the midweek defeat at Newcastle (hamstring), faces a late check. The speedy winger, John Williams, is added to the squad.

Leeds United v Chelsea

Deane (infected elbow) is a major doubt for Leeds, who may also be without Dorigo (knee), Strachan (hamstring) and Fairclough (virus). Whelan, the midweek match-winner against Arsenal, hopes to start. Chelsea's Spencer could displace Shipperley up front.

Manchester City v Everton

City could be without both regular full- backs: Hill (groin) and Phelan (hamstring) are unlikely to pass tests today. Ian Brightwell and Lomas are the expected replacements. Everton, whose transfer activity has come too late for this weekend's action, expect to field an unchanged team, but the Swedish international, Limpar, may replace Parkinson if he recovers from an illness.

Newcastle Utd v Southampton

Seven goals and maximum points from two matches means an unchanged Newcastle side against the Saints, who won 2-1 here last season in Alan Ball's first game in charge. Southampton will be without Dowie (ankle) and Monkou (virus), with Banger as the only recognised striker and Hall deputising for Monkou.

Norwich City v West Ham

The home manager, Deehan, moved for the pounds 1m forward, Sheron, from Manchester City yesterday after his side failed to score in their opening two games, but for the moment he keeps faith with Robins and Ekoku, who wasted a glut of chances against Palace in midweek. Already without Morley, the Hammers were relieved when an X-ray cleared midfielder Holmes to play, after he fell heavily on an elbow in training. Morley, who is due to undergo a cartilage operation this weekend, could be replaced by Jones and pounds 1m summer signing from Swindon, Moncur, could make his debut after overcoming a leg injury.

Nottingham Forest v Leicester

Collymore and the Dutchman, Roy, have shrugged off injury fears to keep their strike partnership intact for Forest. Leicester, who have conceded three goals in each of their first two games, have also lost Walsh for six weeks after a cartilage operation. The Welsh international, Roberts, is the front-line replacement alongside Joachim.

QPR v Ipswich

Gallen, 18, is the centre of attention in the Rangers forward-line. His manager, Francis, names a a squad of 19. Ipswich are unchanged - their summer signings Sedgley and the Dane, Thomsen, resume training on Monday.

Tottenham v Manchester United

Ardiles names an unchanged team as Spurs, who have already wiped out their six-point FA deduction, seek to maintain their 100 per cent record and keep pace with Newcastle at the top of the Premiership. Mabbutt and Hazard stay on the bench. United are ready to give Keane his first full appearance of the season after two substitute outings. McClair or Sharpe may drop out as Cantona serves the last game of his three-match suspension.

Wimbledon v Sheffield Wednesday

The Dons' squad strength is growing as they chase their first Premiership win of the season. Left-back Kimble, who missed much of last season following leg surgery, is available after a lengthy lay-off and midfielder Talboys, a former non-League player with Gloucester City, has overcome a groin injury and is the other addition to a 16-man squad. Wednesday are without Bright, their top scorer last season, who is struggling with the hamstring problem which kept him out of the midweek defeat at Queen's Park Rangers, while Sinton is also out after limping out of the Loftus Road encounter with a knee injury. Watson continues up front and Jones could take Sinton's place.

TOMORROW

Liverpool v Arsenal

Fowler hopes to make it third time lucky against the Gunners as Liverpool make a delayed home debut. The England Under-21 man failed to find the net in a high-profile home debut against them last season and also drew a blank in the 1-0 defeat at Highbury. It will take more than a broken nose to keep Merson out of the Arsenal line-up - and an operation will probably be postponed until after the Gunners' home game with Blackburn on Wednesday. Arsenal, though, could be without their centre-back, Bould, at Anfield, so Keown and Linighan are on standby. Their striker, Wright, is also receiving treatment for a groin strain, but should be fit.
