Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Blackburn Rovers v Oldham
Blackburn have winger Ripley back after a neck injury, and new signing from Plymouth, Marker, is also in the squad. Oldham have ankle problems: Henry will have his tested before taking his place in midfield, but Palmer's rules him out of the attack. McDonald stands by to replace Henry while Halle returns after his exploits with Norway in midweek.
Chelsea v Nottingham Forest
Free-spending Chelsea add Hall and Chamberlain to their squad. Forest will check on the fitness of McKinnon before finalising their side. If the Scot makes it, Keane will continue in central defence in an unchanged team.
Coventry City v Norwich City
Rosario, returning after a back injury to face his old club in the top-of-the-table match, is Coventry's only change from their midweek Coca-Cola Cup line-up, which means skipper Robson is still out. Norwich will again be without their captain, Butterworth, and vice-captain Megson is also out with a strained hamstring.
Crystal Palace v Southampton
Armstrong, with four goals in his last two games, returns for Palace after being Cup-tied in midweek, with Collymore standing down. Skipper Thomas is still out with a trapped nerve in his back. Southampton have doubts over Dixon (groin) and Hurlock (ankle) but Groves has recovered from a calf strain. In Dixon's absence, Dowie may be recalled or Speedie may move into attack. Their captain, Cockerill, has resumed training after injury but is unlikely to return.
Ipswich Town v Sheffield United
Ipswich gave fitness tests to striker Goddard (knee) and midfielder Williams (groin). United goalkeeper Tracey has a shoulder injury, following his one-match ban, so Kelly retains his place.
Leeds United v Everton
Cantona will have a late fitness check on his hamstring but looks set to return for the champions, much earlier than originally diagnosed. Fairclough, who missed the Cup match against Scunthorpe with an injured knee, and Dorigo, who hurt an ankle in that match, are both in the squad. Yugoslav midfielder Radosavjevic (known as 'Preki') makes his Premier debut for Everton; Warzycha is back after his trip to Poland. But Jackson (knee ligaments) and Johnston (back) are the latest to join the Goodison injured list.
Liverpool v Wimbledon
Beleaguered Liverpool recall Grobbelaar in goal in place of James, and McManaman could also return after a back injury. But Nicol, Whelan, Rush and Stewart are still out. Wimbledon are struggling for a left-back, with Elkins and McAllister out through injuries to thigh and hamstring respectively. Ardley may drop back from the wing, or Barton may switch from right-back with Joseph filling in. Blackwell is sidelined with ankle ligament damage.
Manchester United v QPR
United are unchanged from their last three League games, which means recalls for Schmeichel, Blackmore, Giggs and Ferguson after midweek absences. Webb, Martin and Wallace are all in contention for the bench. QPR's McDonald is definitely out of central defence with kidney bruising, but Bardsley could be back after his ankle injury. Wilson (leg), Barker (groin) and Penrice (knee) all face fitness tests. Stejskal is set to take over from Roberts in goal.
Middlesbrough v Aston Villa
Middlesbrough's Falconer is doubtful after picking up a calf injury against Newcastle. Ironside hangs on to the No 1 jersey. Villa are unchanged.
Elsewhere. . .
Charlton Athletic will be without recent signing Robinson, who has a shin injury, and defender Gatting (hamstring) for the visit of Swindon. Peterborough United have central defender Wilcox making his debut but fellow defender Bradshaw misses the visit of his old club Newcastle United through injury. The First Division leaders, seven wins from seven matches, will be without Peacock again so Quinn carries on up front. Leicester City's Oldfield and Gee face fitness tests before they face Watford. Summer signing Lowe stands by to make his full debut while teenage goalkeeper Hoult keeps his place with first-choice Poole and reserve Muggleton still injured. Watford, winless for seven games, wait on centre-half Holdsworth (knee). Striker Moran, on loan from Spurs, looks like being on the Cambridge United bench at Grimsby in an unchanged side. Tillson - on loan from QPR - returns for Grimsby, replacing Handyside. Striker Rees, carried off against QPR in midweek with a badly bruised fibula, is replaced by Mendonca.
TOMORROW
Sheffield Wednesday v Spurs
Defender turned striker Warhurst may return just 11 days after being knocked unconscious in a Uefa Cup tie. Goalkeeper Woods may be forced to return from a stomach strain as deputy Pressman is ill. Third choice Key stands by. Captain Pearson (hamstring) joins King, Hirst, player-manager Francis and Sheridan on the sidelines but Nilsson returns after three games and Hyde is fit again. Tottenham will be without Durie, Samways, Howells, Nayim and Gray. Barmby looks set for a debut alongside Sheringham in attack.
